Part Four
April 28th, 1916
The first chance I got I was out of there, with gunshots following my trail. As soon as I was sure the rebels had lost my trail I made it for my barracks. I was almost shot at entry to my battalion quarters. As soon as I got my explained why I was missing and not in my uniform, I was informed what was going on in the city. We were finally taking control of Dublin after all this time. Such violent fighting is beginning to wind down and the Irish will not be able to sustain this battle for much longer. From what I’m told, about 1,600 people stood against us in the beginning. It’s only a matter of time now. I could not begin to express my relief as I witness the harsh nature of humanity slowing down. What I would not give to finally be done with this hell and find a wife, move to the mountains, have some kids. All of those are dreams for the not so distant future. I won’t focus too much on them, since until the end, my Empire needs me. I figured that the skirmish would be a little more relaxing, but nowhere have I seen such vicious and brutal destruction in the streets; Not even on the Western Front. Luckily their makeshift barricades don’t stand much of a chance against our cannons and snipers, however they are rather troublesome. I’m glad the end of this is near. Tomorrow, General Lowe plans on forcing us to storm the General Post Office and rip through the barricades of Dublin. It’s going to be a long day, but I’m optimistic
